Kali Audio WS-6.2 Studio Subwoofer

The WS-6.2 is only slightly larger than an 8-inch studio monitor, making it the perfect choice to sit under your desk, or in other tight spaces. The horizontally opposed woofers in the WS-6.2 present as much radiating area as a 10-Inch woofer, but in a much smaller package. As an added benefit, the configuration of the woofers cancels out net vibration, so the sub won’t scoot, buzz, or rattle, even at high SPLs. With 120 dB max SPL, the WS-6.2 will be more than sufficient for most stereo setups, and will work well in small multichannel setups as well. If more SPL is needed, a second WS-6.2 can be added without taking up very much space. You can also look at using larger WS-12 subwoofer.
The WS-6.2 features balanced inputs for either XLR or TRS cables, as well as unbalanced RCA inputs. You can use the 80 Hz crossover if you’re using the sub to extend the low end response of your monitors, use LFE mode to feed the sub a dedicated LFE channel, or turn off the crossover and use an external crossover for greater customization. The 80 Hz crossover is meant for use with Kali’s studio monitors, but it will work well with monitors from most popular manufacturers. When using the 80 Hz crossover, high-passed signal will be sent out via the XLR outputs. The WS-6.2 has a footswitch jack that will let you turn the subwoofer off, and the XLR outputs will send full range signal to your studio monitors. Footswitches are sold separately, and are available at most music retailers. Contact Kali Audio customer service if you need advice in purchasing a footswitch.
Like Kali Audio’s full range monitors, the WS-6.2 includes a front-firing port tube that prevents noise and compression. On most port tubes, air leaves at different speeds from different points of the opening, creating noisy turbulence. This turbulence can be heard as “chuffing,” or an audible air sound coming from the monitor. This sound will add to the noise floor and obscure the details of the low end. The port tube on WS-6.2was designed to ensure that all of the air leaves the port tube at the same velocity. This helps add to the low end response of the speaker, while keeping the bass clean, tight, and devoid of extra noise.

Due to the fact that the drivers are on both sides, there is no phase problem, and it complements the monitors almost imperceptibly. Of course, the recommended proportions must be kept for placement. I thought I would order a foot switch, but there is no reason to turn it off. From 31hz upwards, its response is totally linear, even and tight. Of course, there is noise when listening very loudly, but when mixing at normal volume, it is absolutely inaudible. It was actually the smoothest subwoofer setup I've ever had. I expanded it, positioned it, resized it with REW, remeasured SoundID profiles for the monitors, approx. The whole thing was 1 hour and since then I don't remember it, except when my foot accidentally touches it. It doesn't buzz, it doesn't hum, it doesn't make any side noise, it doesn't color the monitors, I did a phase test. I think the crossover is perfectly fine for 5-7 inch monitors (I haven't tried it with a smaller one). It sounds good even softly, I use it 80% softly, speaking volume or even below. There may be people who may think that the adjustment options are poor (fixed 80hz crossover and the phase polarity is only 0 vs 180°), but there is simply no need to adjust them, because due to their small size, they can be positioned in a good place, and those over 8col+ want to use them with a deeper crossover , and why such an approx. A box that brings the performance of a 10-inch sub? My subs so far were full of parameterization, I spent days fine-tuning them and never felt good about the results achieved. I just put this in place and it's done, it works, good, we can continue. (I use it in a small but somewhat treated room)
