New baby animals have arrived at the Surprise zoo, with features to discover one by one. First, the babies’ cocoon is admired. But not everything is as it seems. A very different baby animal is often hidden beneath the fur. Perhaps the sheep is napping under the hedgehog spines, the dog in a dragon’s skin, or the owl in beaver fur. When they hatch, their eyes are still closed. Wipe their eyelids with a damp cloth to see what colour their eyes are. Is it a boy or a girl, and what colour is its dummy? Something even more exciting happens if you sit them in their bathtub and pour ice-cold water over them: they change colour, so the kitten becomes a tiger and the white pony turns pink.
